Derwent London owns and manages over 6 million sq ft of commercial real estate located predominantly in central London and valued at £4.2 billion in 2014, making them the largest London-focused real estate investment trust (REIT). They approached us in 2012 to redevelop their site and solve multiple problems, like poor navigation and SEO, difficult content management, outdated visual design and a lack of clear information for investors and prospective tenants.

The Work

We carried out a full audit of the old site and presented a strategy for restructuring content and developing user experience. Two major audience groups were identified: investors and potential tenants – so we ensured each was kept in mind throughout the planning process. Aligning the visuals with Derwent London’s strong creative ethos was key; the company place a lot of value on design.

Visualisation of development villages

Properties are grouped into “development villages” and displayed on a custom Google map. A filter lets users focus their search and for prospective tenants, buildings with space available to rent are highlighted in the listings.

Investors area

Detailed investment data, including latest share price and historical analysis, results and reports and other financial and governance information, is readily available.

The website now attracts 95.5% more users than it did before relaunch, with nearly three quarters of traffic coming via search and mobile traffic increasing by 300%. Our relationship with Derwent London is ongoing as we continue to improve the site – providing more functionality and more specialised content management.
