DonateFlow

Since its launch five years ago, DonateFlow, our web based donation platform has gone from strength to strength, helping to raise over £1 million worth of donations.

We’re extremely proud of this achievement, but we knew we could do more, so we didn’t stop there. We’ve constantly improved the platform, refined existing features and combined user feedback and our own product roadmap together to build new ones.

As the user base for DonateFlow grew, we started to find that a few queries would come up again and again. The most prevalent question was “Can we use this for memberships?”. We have long standing experience with the arts and culture and not-for-profit sectors, so we were not at all surprised that this question came up so often. Our answer was yes, technically you could use DonateFlow for memberships, but it isn’t really the right tool for the job. In many ways it’d be like trying to hit a square peg into a round hole.

Sure, donations and memberships might seem similar, but in a few important ways they’re very different:

  • Donations can have GiftAid claimed on them, memberships cannot.
  • Some memberships consist of a fee and a voluntary donation.
  • Standalone memberships offer perks while donations often do not (benefits can be given to donors, however GiftAid rules dictate limits for the value of these benefits)
  • Memberships can sometimes be shared with a partner, friend or other family members.

So, we know that arts and culture and not for profit clients are looking for a membership solution, and we also know that a lot of these clients are using Spektrix for their ticketing and CRM system (we’re Spektrix Partners and have implemented many integrations for clients including Chickenshed and Long Wharf Theatre).

With all that in mind, we realised that we needed to build a platform that took everything we knew about donations and make it all about memberships. We also knew that it needed a name that would instantly describe what it does, and that while it is an entirely new product, it does have tried and tested foundations.

Introducing MemberFlow

With MemberFlow, members can now get the same beautifully crafted, accessible and streamlined membership sign up process that donors have enjoyed on DonateFlow since 2020.

All the features you’d expect

MemberFlow comes fully equipped with everything you’d expect. It includes thoughtfully designed, brand-customised sign-up pages, and nearly all system text can be tailored to reflect your organisation’s voice and messaging.

Flexible membership options

Organisations can configure multiple membership levels, each with its own set of benefits. An automatic benefit comparison table helps prospective members quickly understand the value at each price point.

Seamless payment integration

MemberFlow integrates with popular payment providers — Stripe, GoCardless, and PayPal. While standard processing fees apply from each provider, Ten4 does not charge any additional transaction fees. If a different payment provider is preferred, we’re happy to explore integration options.

Custom sign-up journeys

Support for multiple membership sign-up pages allows for tailored journeys. For example, organisations offering both standard and high-value patron memberships can create dedicated landing pages to tell a deeper story and personalise the experience. The system supports monthly, annual, and flexible membership schedules.

Donation & GiftAid handling

For memberships that include both a fee and a voluntary donation, MemberFlow offers full configurability. Organisations can choose whether the donation amount is adjustable by the user. Where applicable, GiftAid is automatically applied to the donation portion only, while VAT is correctly calculated on the membership fee.

Reporting & integrations

A clean, user-friendly dashboard provides basic reporting and full data export capabilities. For Spektrix clients, MemberFlow offers seamless integration, automatically syncing memberships and donations. Additional CRM and marketing integrations are in development.

What’s next?

While we’ve only just launched MemberFlow, we’ve already got a product roadmap bursting with ideas, improvements and new features. Within the next few months, we’re going to be rolling out the ability to gift a membership to someone else, sign up for a joint membership in the same easy flow as an individual would and a membership management area that will allow members to log in and see their details and benefits, renew online and more.

If you’re already a DonateFlow customer, you’ll feel right at home with MemberFlow, and if you’re new to both, welcome, let’s get started!
