Welcome to the new Ten4 website
RSSIt's been a while in the making, but we’re happy to introduce our brand new website. The fifth iteration of ten4design.co.uk since the company formed in 2001 marks a big move forward in terms of design and development. Amongst other improvements, this website runs on our own content management system, encompasses a new blog section, is built using HTML5 and CSS3 and is optimised for the iPhone.
Blog
A new feature to the site is our blog. We wanted a place to communicate with our clients, talk about some of the great projects we're working on and offer a little insight into the daily life at Ten4. We hope to be adding new articles all the time from tips & tricks for our clients, reviews of exhibition outings or top places we like to eat in Shoreditch for Friday lunch. Keep checking back for updates, or subscribe to our RSS feed.
Mobile friendly
If you’re viewing this on an iPhone (or similarly sized smartphone) you might have already noticed we have a full version of the site optimised for mobile using CSS3 media queries. If you’re not, then you might want to go and see how lovely it looks! We hope it’ll allow our clients to reach us while on the go and demonstrate how websites can translate across devices.
HTML5
When it came to the build, we wanted something that would stand the test of time and allow us to experiment. HTML5 is the “next big thing” on the web and while we don’t think its quite ready for client projects (due to incompatibilities with older browsers) we decided to jump right in with this re-design.
We’ve implemented the HTML5 sectioning elements such as 'header', 'footer', 'section' and 'article' to give our content more meaning (semantics) for accessibility and search engine optimisation. By utilising some of the new HTML5 form fields, we’ve been able to create forms that are mobile friendly and support functionality that will be appearing in main stream browsers in future versions. Finally we’ve added HTML5 video so that our video is mobile friendly while falling back to Flash for devices/browsers that don’t yet support it.
By experimenting with HTML5 for our own site, means we’ll be ready to use it on our client’s sites when conditions change to make it more viable.
Content Managed
The site is now fully content managed using our updated content management system. This means the whole team will be able to help keep the site up-to-date. We also added Disqus commenting to the blog so we can get your feedback on the articles we’re posting.
